While self-quarantining due to COVID-19, my neighbor, Ashley, and I frequently chatted over our connecting patios' shared fence about how incredible our apartment building's staff has been. There was a large influx of tenant deliveries and increased cleaning in our 23 story high-rise. The staff here is working so hard and trying to stay positive while dealing with incredible amounts of stress.
Coming from the nonprofit world with a background in social work, Ashley brought up the idea of utilizing my marketing experience to work together.
We put our heads together and launched the High-Rise High Five (or the #HRH5 for short) on April 20! The focus of the fundraiser is to raise money for the essential staff (specifically concierge, maintenance, and cleaning) in our apartment building.
We created a page on my Lucky Karp website to promote the fundraiser, as well as on GoFundMe. The suggested donation amounts are tiered out with special thank-you gifts. In less than two weeks, we reached our $2,500 campaign goal through over 40 donations.
We promoted the fundraiser through personal messages with our neighbor friends and fliers throughout the building. I personally pitched the story to local publications and was able to secure inclusion Chicpea JC’s Donating To Local Organizations and Businesses article, Everything Jersey City’s IG Live and article, Jersey City Heroes in Action, and Hoboken Girl’s 17 Headlines You Missed in Hoboken + Jersey City This Week roundup article!
